Call set up charges – Not to be confused with the common minimum call charge. A set up charge is added to each and every call, vastly inflating the cost of all short duration calls.
‘Rounding-up’ – The pence per minute should be what you pay, rounding costs up to the nearest penny (e.g. 1.3p becomes 2p) could add a significant amount to the cost of your calls.
Long term contracts – Service providers know that wholesale rates can reduce from time to time. A long term contract means that your tariff is largely fixed.
Service – If rates are genuinely very low, telecoms companies often find it necessary to cut back on their costs. This may materialise in the form of a call-centre style of support. So, when you really need something done, or some expert advice, you will not get it!
